A Self-Directed Artist Residency in Sedona, Arizona

The Art Cottage is a private, furnished one-bedroom cottage in West Sedona designed for artists, writers, and independent creatives seeking dedicated time and space to work. (Remote workers and digital nomads are welcome to reserve as well)

Available for 30–90 day stays, the Art Cottage offers a peaceful home base for focused work, creative projects, or simply stepping away from your normal routine. For artists and writers, the cottage can also function as a completely self-directed creative residency.

This is a self-directed residency. There are no required classes, critiques, exhibitions, community events, or expectations around what you produce.

The Art Cottage is a paid residency and does not provide a stipend or funded housing.

A Space to Live + Create

One of the benefits of the Art Cottage is having your living and creative space together.

The cottage includes two indoor work areas, a reading nook, and a shaded outdoor workspace beneath mature trees.

Indoor workspaces: 1 high-top table (24×48 inches), 1 standard table (48×48 inches). Plenty of kitchen countertop space. Moveable table lamp & overhead adjustable lighting.

Outdoor workspace: Adjustable drafting table on the patio
Extra tables, metal easels, 10×10 popup canopy tent are available by request

You are welcome to rearrange movable furniture in the living room, kitchen, and patio areas to create a setup that works for your project. Simply return the space to its original arrangement before departure.

Artists should bring the materials and tools needed for their practice.

If your project involves solvents, fumes, aerosol sprays, resin, open flame, significant dust, large equipment, or specialized ventilation, please contact Lovejoy before reserving to make sure the space is appropriate for your work.

Permanent alterations to the cottage or walls are not permitted.

Comfortable for Extended Stays

The cottage is fully furnished and includes:

  • Full kitchen with gas stove and cookware

  • Coffee station

  • Central heat and air conditioning

  • Private washer and dryer

  • 300 Mbps Wi-Fi

  • Comfortable indoor workspaces

  • Shaded private patio and yard

  • Hammock and outdoor seating

For stays of 60–90 days, a complimentary monthly mid-stay cleaning is included.

Your host, Lovejoy, is a professional artist and art instructor. A selection of simple creative projects and supplies is also available in the cottage for experimentation or downtime.

Quiet, Private + Walkable

The Art Cottage is located in a quiet West Sedona neighborhood directly across from Whole Foods and within easy reach of restaurants, shops, cafés, and red-rock trails.

It is part of a duplex property, with Lovejoy living and working in the rear residence.

The cottage has its own:

  • Private entrance

  • Dedicated parking

  • Private front yard

  • Shaded patio

  • Full kitchen and laundry

There are no shared indoor spaces.

The building's cinderblock construction, triple-pane windows, and layout provide excellent separation between the two residences.

Lovejoy is nearby if something is needed, but otherwise your residency is completely independent.

Quiet hours are 9:00 PM–8:00 AM.

Direct reservations require a rental application/background screening through Zillow or SmartMove. The screening fee is approximately $25–$50.

This is simply rental screening for an extended stay. There is no portfolio review or artistic jury process.

Pets + Parking

Well-behaved pets are considered on a case-by-case basis. Please contact Lovejoy with your pet's breed, age, and size before reserving.

One dedicated parking space is included and can accommodate most standard vehicles, small campervans, and some smaller RVs. Please inquire before bringing an oversized vehicle.

The property does not offer EV charging. Public charging stations are available nearby in Sedona.
